Toll in Portugal with the ViaVerde box
In Portugal, several operators levy tolls on many highways and bridges for all vehicles. The toll depends on the distance driven and of the vehicle type. At more and more toll stations in Portugal only an electronic payment of the road charge is possible – with rising tendency.
tolltickets now also offers the electronic toll box ViaVerde to all drivers without a bank account in Portugal.
All vehicles (also with trailer) with a height of less than 1.10 m on the first axle. The number of axles is not taken into account in this category.
All vehicles (without a trailer) with two axles and a height of 1.10 m and higher, measured on the first axle.
All vehicles with three axles (incl. trailer) and a height of 1.10m and higher, measured on the first axle.
All vehicles with four and more axles (incl. trailer) and a height of 1.10 m and higher, measured on the first axle.
In Portugal the vehicle category depends on the height of the vehicle measured from the first axle and also the number of axles that the vehicle has (with trailer).

The toll can be paid directly to the service staff on lanes at the toll station that bear this symbol.
The toll can be paid via a machine on lanes bearing this symbol.
You can pay the toll in cash or with a credit card. Please note that not all credit cards are accepted and that manual payment is not possible at all toll stations.
All lanes bearing this symbol are reserved for drivers that have a small device – the ViaVerde Box – in their cars for automatic payment of the toll. The ViaVerde Box allows you to pass all toll stations without having to stop. The toll charges are simply billed via toll tickets.
Also, the ViaVerde Box is accepted in 92 car parks.
The ViaVerde toll box is linked to your vehicle’s registration plate, however the toll box can be used in another vehicle (of the same category) at any time. Before changing vehicles, all you need to do is change the toll box to the new vehicle via your mytolltickets login. It is only possible to change the vehicle category if the toll box is changed.
Note: The ViaVerde box of tolltickets cannot be used at GALP filling stations.
Caution:
On some of the new routes that now charge toll, the toll charges can only be paid with the ViaVerde Box!
You can use any lane that bears the ViaVerde logo!
ViaVerde may be used in all parking garages in Portugal which are signpost the “V” symbol. Just press the “V” button when you drive in and the parking fee will deducted via the toll tickets.
